Objective:To observe the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture combined with motor relearning programme (MRP) on patients with stroke, to study effects and long-term efficacy of them on motor functions, neural functions and activities of daily living, and to find a more effective rehabilitation programme for these stroke patients.Methods:The60patients were chosen from the department of acupuncture and rehabilitation in Jiangsu province Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and they are randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. There are30patients each group. Patients in the control group are treated with MRP, while those in the treatment group are received the acupuncture combined with MRP. All Patients are assessed before and after training period. The evaluating items included:(1) Fugl-Meyer assessment(FMA)scale is used for evaluating the motor function;(2)Clinical neurologic deficit scale(CNDS) is used for evaluating the function of neural;(3)Functional Independence Measure(FIM) scale is used for evaluating the activities of daily living. All treatments are received by the two groups for1time everyday and5times a week, and they continue did community rehabilitation after the treatment of four weeks. We observed the clinical effect right after the treatment and2month after the treatment.Results:(1)Comparison in group:There are significant improvements (P<0.01) of FMA,CNDS and FIM after4weeks treatment, compared with scores before the treatment, and all data have significant difference (P<0.01) after our treatment of4weeks and three months are accomplished.(2)Comparison between groups:There are significant difference (P<0.05) of FMA,CNDS and FIM between the treatment group and the control group after our treatment of4weeks and2month after the treatment.Conclusion:(1)The acupuncture combined with MRP and MRP are effective methods for the rehabilitation of stroke patients.(2)The acupuncture combined with MRP can effectively decreased clinical neurologic deficit scale, improved motor functions and activities of daily living of stroke patients, and the effect is better than using MRP only.(3)After the treatment of4weeks, if the patients with stroke could continue do the community rehabilitation exercise, the functions of the patients can also be improved significantly.
