Clinical Research Of Gubenquyu Decoction In Treating PCOS Of Qi Deficiency And Phlegm And Blood Stasis Type

PurposeIn this study,we explore the etiology and pathogenesis of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) of Qi deficiency and phlegm and blood stasis type and offer scientific and theoretical basis for using traditional Chinese medicine to treat PCOS by clinically observing the efficacy of Gubenquyu Decoction.MethodsWe choose66out-patients with PCOS in Hubei Province Chinese Medicine Hospital from From March2010to August2011. The patients are randomly divided into Chinese medicine treatment group (34cases, hereafter CMTG) and Western medicine control group (32cases, hereafter WMCG). CMTG were treated with Gubenquyu Decoction while WMCG were treated with CC. Three months later, we observe the overall clinical efficacy in patients:the improvement of the situation of Chinese medicine cl inical symptoms, the recovery of menstrual cycle, comparison of the pregnancy rate, changes in BBT, changes in ovarian volume in patients after treatment, changes in the sex hormones (LH, FSH, LH/FSH, T, PRL, E2) level, improvement status of obesity, hirsutism, acne and other signs. Alldata are processed by SPSS17.0. the measurement data are treated by t test, and count data are treated by X2test.Results1The overall efficacy of the two groups after treatment:CMTG is88.24%while WMCG is81.25%. but the difference of the two groups isn’t significant (P>0.05) which indicate that the overall efficacy of the two groups is statistically equal.2After the treatment, improvement of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome:the difference of the two groups are significantly different (P<0.01), The improvement of CMTG is better than WMCG. In improving the abnormal menstrual cycle, the two group has no significant difference. The CMTG play better in improving menstruation, pale, dark or dark purple block, dizziness, fatigue, lumbosacral aches, abdominal pain, vaginal discharge volume of TCM symptoms. The Chinese medicine symptom scores of CMTG were significantly different from that of WMCG).3Changes in BBT:After treatment, the BBT of17cases in the treatment group returned to normal, the efficiency rate is50.00%. And18cases return to normal in WMCG, the efficiency rate is56.25%. The difference between the two groups didn’t change significantly (P>0.05)4The pregnancy rate comparison:After treatment, the GMTG have6cases in pregnancy, the efficiency rate is31.58%, only1cases to succeed in pregnancy in WMCG, the efficiency rate is5.00%. So the CMTG are more pronounced.5The improvement in the status of the sex hormone levels:the serum LH, LH/FSH, T-PRL levels improved significantly after treatment in both groups. LH/FSH ratio and PRL levels in the treatment group was significantly better than the control group (P<0.01). 6Changes in ovarian volume:The changes in CMTG are more pronounced.7Improvement of obesity, hirsutism, acne and other signs:CMTG are much better than WMCG in improving obesity, hirsutism. Patients (BMI≥25) compared with the control group improved significantly (P <0.01), treatment group acne P&K scores is significantly different from the control group (P<0.01).there was no significant difference in the improve hirsutism, after treatment, the F-G didn’ t change significantly (P>0.05)ConclusionAccording to the performance of the patients with PCOS of Qi deficiency and phlegm and blood stasis type, we think the cause of the etiology and pathogenesis is spleen deficiency and phlegm block. Through observing the treatment of Gubenquyu Decoction on this disease, we find it has the same effect as CC in the clinical total effective rate, improvement in the menstrual cycle, improvement in BBT and improvement in the level of serum LH, of LH/FSH, T, PRL. All the evidences show that it can play the similar role in regulate the patient’s sex hormones as clomiphene citrate. In improving the symptoms of ovarian volume and pregnancy rate, as well as traditional Chinese medicine clinical symptoms, obesity, acne and other aspects, it works significantly better than clomiphene citrate. The reason causes that should be Gubenquyu Decoction can dynamically balance ying and yan, improve the body’s own regulating ability, reduce the the PCOS pathological changes, improve the endocrine and metabolic disorders.
