Objective:To study the expression of P27in prostate cancer (PCa) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and its correlation with risk factor of prostate cancer. To discuss the role of P27in prostate cancer development, also the role of combined detection of P27and PSA in prostate cancer treatment and its prognosis.Material and method:43patients with PCa, who were surgically treated between2007and2011, were retrospectively assessed, among them poor differentiated21cases, moderately differentiated10cases and well differentiated12cases, A、B、C、D period were14cases、9cases、11cases and9cases. At the same time immunohistochemical analysis of P27was also done in30cases of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) as a control group. In order to analyze the correlation between expression level of P27and PSA level (as a risk factor), the patients were divided into three groups:low risk group (PSA<10ng/ml,11cases), high risk group (PSA>20ng/ml,23cases) and intermediate group (PSA10-20ng/ml,9cases). Moreover, the correlation between P27expression level and pathological grade was statistically analyzed.Result: P27expression rate in BPH was90%whereas it was48.84%in PCa, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). P27expression level were72.73%,66.67%in low risk and intermediate groups respectively whereas it was27.78%in high risk group, the difference among them were statistically significant (P<0.05). P27expression level had inversely correlation with pathological grading (P<0.05) and clinical staging (P<0.05) also it was inversely correlated with risk factor of PCa(P<0.05).Conclusion:1. P27has a strong expression in normal prostate tissue while its expression is lower in prostate cancer than that in normal prostate tissue; also it has a high correlation with pathological grading and clinical staging. In addition, it has an important role in development of prostate cancer.2.Expression of P27in prostate cancer with regard of PSA level has a significant role for selection of treatment method and judgment of prognosis.
