The Study Of Airborne Pollens And The Correlation With Allergic Rhinitis In Haikou City

Objective:To investigate the species, counts, and seasonal variation of airborne pollens in the urban district of Haikou City, Hainan Province. To explore the correlations between the pollen allergens and allergic rhinitis in Haikou City.Methods:Durham Gravity method was used to collect the airborne pollen samples in Haikou City from Jan1to Dec31,2004. the species and concentration of airborne pollens were observed and the relationship of airborne pollens and weather conditions was analyzed.20kinds of pollen allergens were skin prick tested in500patients who were diagnosed with allergic rhinitis in The People’s Hospital of Haikou from Jan4,2008to Nov26,2011.Results:(1)5073pollens from30species were collected in one observed point in Haikou City in the full-year of2004, the peak dispersal of airborne pollen occured from March to April. The most common air carried pollen was Casuarina equisetifolia (29.19%), following were Poaceae (16.97%) and Arecaceae (15.80%). The concentration of airbore pollens was negatively correlated with the rainfall and wind speed.(2)357cases (357/500,71.40%) were positive to skin prick tests for pollen allergens,and67patients (67/500,13.40%) were strong positive. The most common allergenic pollen was phoenix roebelenii pollen (68.60%), following were Mangifera indica pollen (52.60%) and Cycas revoluta pollen (51.20%).54.6%patients with allergic rhinitis were positive to two or more allergenic pollens.Conclutions:There are airborne pollens dispersal in atmosphere of Haikou City during the whole year, the time of the peak concentration of airbone pollens is March and April. The main airborne pollens are Casuarina equisetifolia and Poaceae and Arecaceae The pollens sensitizing is one of the leading causes to allergic rhinitis,and the most common allergnic pollen is Casuarina equisetifolia pollen, and then Poaceae and Arecaceae pollen in Haikou City.
