ObjectiveTo evaluate the safety and efficiency of laparoscopic hernia repair, to study the recurrence and complications of this technique, and to compare the operative efficiency for two methods of laparoscopic hernia repair, that is transabdominal pre-peritoneal technique(TAPP)and totally extraperitoneal technique(TEP)。MethodThe clinical data of52patients(54procedures)undergoing laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair admitted from Apr2011to Feb2012in minimally invasive surgery center of Qi Lu hospital were retrospectively analyzed. There were45Transabdominal pre-peritoneal procedures performed in43patients and9totally extraperitoneal procedures were performed in9patients.The cases were followed—up by periodic outpatient, telephone and home visit. We designed a special table which include all the possible complications of the operation. The cases were followed—up for2-12months.Several important evaluation include:operative time, postoperative complications, postoperative hospital stay, recurrence rate, patient satisfaction. ResultsAll the52patients were successfully completed and no one was converted to open operation. There are no intraoperative complications, no serious postoperative complications, most complications were ecumenical. The recurrence rate was1.92percent. The operating time was (56±15.78)min vs.(61.53±19.21)min and no significant difference. The postoperative hospital stay were (3.03±1.73)d vs.(3.64±1.27)d, and the require to analgesics were3and1respectively in2groups. Transient neurapraxia, haematoma or seroma and urinary retention ranked as the most common postoperative complications of laparoscopichernia repair whose occurrence were:12.96percent,5.56percent and3.70percent respectively. There were no significant differences in operative time, post operative hospitalization, complications and recurrence rate between the transabdominal pre—peritoneal and totally extraperitoneal repairs. Conclusion:The laparoscopic hernia repair is a new tension-free hernia repair method which is safe, visible and effective. There is no curative effect between TAPP and TEP,but more prospective randomized studies are necessary.
