Clinical Observation On Vascular Dementia Treated By " Yi Qi Tiao Xue, Fu Ben Pei Yuan" Acupuncture Therapy Combined With Pharmacotherapy

Objective:The purpose of this research is to observe clinical effects on vascular dementia(VD) treated by "Yi Qi Tiao Xue, Fu Ben Pei Yuan" acupuncture therapy combined with pharmacotherapy and discuss the probable mechanism.Methods:50patients were randomly divided into acupuncture group(n=25) and comprehensive therapy group(n=25). The patients of two groups were all given basis treatment. Acupuncture group was treated by acupuncture of "Danzhong"(CV17),"Zhongwan"(CV12),"Qihai"(CV6),"Xuehai"(SP10),"Zusanli"(ST36) and "Waiguan"(SJ5) for once a day,5times per week. On the basis of the previous treatment, the comprehensive therapy group was also given Huangdi Powder by oral, one bag a time, three times a day. The indexes of two groups such as MMSE scores, ADL scores, effect and blood lipids were observed after treating for12weeks.Results:Compared with pre-treatment, the MMSE scores of two groups were significantly higher after treatment(P<0.01). Meanwhile, the MMSE scores of the comprehensive therapy group were significantly higher than acupuncture group after treatment (P<0.05). The effect of comprehensive therapy group was better than the acupuncture group on cognitive function, tested by Ridit analysis (p<0.05). Compared with pre-treatment, the ADL scores of the two groups after treatment were significantly lower(P<0.01). Meanwhile, the ADL scores of comprehensive therapy group after treatment were significantly lower than the acupuncture group(P<0.05). The effect of comprehensive therapy group was better than the acupuncture group on daily living abilities (P<0.05).Conclusion:The "Yi Qi Tiao Xue, Fu Ben Pei Yuan" acupuncture method can significantly improve cognitive function and the ADL scores in patients with vascular dementia. The effect of comprehensive treatment group was better than the acupuncture group. The mechanism maybe associated with adjust the indexes of blood lipids.
