Objective:Based on clinical medical records of national TCM master Zhou Zhongying in diagnosing a lot of brain tumors for many years, this dissertation adopts the method of comprehensive analysis to research clinical experience of professor Zhou Zhongying in differentiating and treating brain tumors and his academic ideas, and gives more attention to explore his rules of differential treatment and unique administration experience to make them guide the clinic better and improve TCM therapeutic effects of brain tumors, consequently bringing happiness to patients. Methods:By following Professor Zhou Zhongying to copy prescriptions for a long time, the files of medical cases on brain tumors in recent8years were mainly collected. By screening,44medical records matching conditions included263times in total, then the database of collecting and storing case records was established for all clinical files about these records by software SQL-Server2005, the major function of which was to statistically analyze the first clinical symptoms, etiology, pathogenesis and drugs of patients in order to seek the rules of differential treatment.Results:Among44patients,24cases were the males and20cases were the females.34cases pertained to primary brain tumor while10cases to secondary brain tumor. The oldest was85years old, the youngest5years old, and the mean age46.75. The main manifestations of intracranial tumor included headache, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea/vomiting, weakness of the limbs, lassitude and lack of strength, speaking disorder, and difficulty in walking, in which headache accounted for36.36%, dizziness for22.73%, blurred vision for18.18%, nausea/vomiting for13.64%, weakness of the limbs for11.36%, lassitude and lack of strength, speaking disorder and difficulty in walking for9.09%respectively. Regarding the tongue and pulse, the frequencies of thin, yellow and greasy tongue coating, dull dark purple tongue and thready slippery pulse were relatively higher, respectively occupying31.82%,25%and29.55%. The pathological factors involved wind, phlegm, stasis, toxins, deficiency, cold and heat, and their occurrence frequencies were respectively81%,95%,98%,27%,84%,2%and18%. The pathogenesis represented by excess pathogens included wind-phlegm-stasis obstruction, stasis obstructing clear orifices, disemboguement of cancerous toxins, heat, toxins, phlegm and stasis obstructing the lung, internal wind mixing with phlegm, internal accumulation of dampness heat, lucid yang failing to freely function and dysfunction of lucid yang, in which the occurrence frequency of wind-phlegm-stasis obstruction was up to29times, and the frequency was69.51%. Much higher than other excess pathogens, it ranked the first place. The pathogenesis represented by deficient healthy qi included deficiency of dual qi and yin, yin impairment of the liver and kidney, lower deficiency of the liver and kidney and dysfunction of the spleen due to deficiency of spleen qi, in which the occurrence frequency of lower deficiency of the liver and kidney taking up the largest proportion was22times, and the frequency accounted for50%.135different applied drugs including940in total were divided into three major categories, namely attacking the pathogenic factors, supporting healthy qi and harmonizing with mild flavor. The drugs for attacking the pathogenic factors took up the largest proportion,62.87%. They mainly included four categories of drugs, namely the drugs for activating blood to remove stasis, drugs for resolving toxins and resisting cancers, drugs for eliminating wind and dredging collaterals as well as those for resolving phlegm and dissipating masses, in which their proportion were13.94%,12.66%,13.30%and12.98%, respectively. The drugs for supporting healthy qi primarily included the following drugs:the drugs for replenishing kidney and nourishing yin, drugs for tonifying qi and blood, drugs for warming yang and dissipating cold, and drugs for invigorating spleen to support transportation, in which the drugs for replenishing kidney and nourishing yin were the most, approximately accounting for15%.Conclusion:1. the pathological factors of brain tumor mainly include wind, phlegm, stasis, toxins and deficiency, in which cancerous toxins are crucial for the development of brain tumor;2. the pathogenesis pertains to deficiency in root and excess in branch. Consumption of the liver and kidney is the root, and wind-phlegm-stasis obstruction is the branch. The positions involve five zang-organs, especially the liver and kidney;3. The mainly-applied drugs include blood-activating and stasis-resolving drugs, anti-cancer and toxin-eliminating drugs, wind-eliminating and collaterals-dredging drugs, phlegm-resolving and masses-dissipating drugs as wel; as kidney-replenishing and yin-nourishing drugs.
