Back groundIn the late Qing Dynasty,western theories spreading to the East, many new methods of treating jaundice were put forward based on the senior physicians’theories and experiences in the treatment of jaundice. It exerted great influences with characteristics of the times connecting link between the preceding and the following. The modern treatments of jaundice have achieved certain effects lacking of standardized researches.ObjectiveBased on collecting, arranging and analyzing jaundice cases in the late Qing Dynasty with statistical methods in combination with computer technology, data mining, this study focused on summarizing medication law in that period. It can provide new ideas and approaches for the modern standard of syndrome differentiation and treatment of jaundice diseases.MethodsCollecting jaundice cases in the late Qing dynasty, we arranged the prescriptions and medications in these cases, created database and analyzed with statistical methods of frequency analysis and cluster analysis. According to this, we tried to explore the medication law and characteristics of treatment of jaundice and protocol basic formula applying in clinic.Result36work have been read and16records were included with prescriptions and medicinals in detail.19records without jaundice cases and Irecords which has jaundi ce case wi thout prescriptions and medicinal s in detail were excluded.48convinced cases,70prescritions and133Chinese medicine with679applying times were collected. In late Qing Dynasty s jaundice treatment, heat-clearing medicinal and Interior-warming medicinal were in the most widely use subordinated by harmonizing medicinal. Hot medicinal and freezing medicinal were in less application. Pungent, sweet and bitter were common in flavor of medicinals subordinated by light flavor. Salt and salty flavor hadn’t been used. Dampness-draining and water-expelling medicinal was most widely used. Tonifying and replenishing and heat-clearing medicinal were next to it. It showed that the main therapeutic principle of treating jaundice in the late Qing Dynasty include water-expelling, dampness-draining, heat-clearing and tonifying. The auxiliary therapeutic principles are qi-regulating, dampness-resolving, exterior-releasing, digestant-formula, blood-activating and stasis-resolvingAccording to the clustering analysis, in the late Qing Dynasty, commonly used drugs for the treatment of jaundice include wormwood, tuckahoe, Polyporus, Alisma, Atractylodes, Radix Paeoniae Alba, licorice, angelica, gardenia, tangerine peel, Atractylodes, Magnolia, malt, the divine comedy.ConclusionIn late Qing Dynasty, the treatment of jaundice emphasized on heat-clearing, dampness-dispelling, bile-draining, liver-relaxing and blood-nourishing and blood circulation-promoting. According to this, theories of jaundice treatment was characterized by "bile into the blood" and" blood division" in the late Qing Dynasty. Based on this, commonly used drug are wormwood, Polyporus, Alisma, tuckahoe, liquorice, white atractylodes rhizome, white peony root, angelica, gardenia, tangerine peel, Atractylodes, Magnolia, malt, the Divine Comedy. It provides experiences and references to the modern Chinese medicine treatment of jaundice.
