BackgroundCervical spondylotic radiculopathy is the most common clinical type of cervical diseases. Symptoms of this disease is complex, hard to be cured, sometime can lead to disability, which affect people’s daily learning, work and life seriously. Treatments of this disease are numerous. Acupuncture is one of the most important non-surgical therapies in the treatments of this disease. In this study, we apply acupoint catgut embedding treatment to cure cervical spondylotic radiculopathy for the purpose of studying its feasibility and effectiveness.ObjectiveIn this clinical study, we adopt randomized controlled study to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of acupoint catgut embedding therapy of Cervical spondylotic radiculopathy, which is in order to facilitate the application and promotion of the therapy.MethodsWe select60standards-compliant cervical spondylotic radiculopathy patients, and divide them into two groups averagely which are acupoint catgut embedding group and acupuncture group. One group will take a treatment as follows:1. the acupoint catgut embedding groupPrescription:Do the acupoint catgut embedding on neck Jiaji (C5-C7), quchi, waiguang, hegu once per week for two weeks.2. the acupuncture groupPrescription:Acupuncture on neck Jiaji, quchi, waiguang, hegu every day for two weeks, except for sunday. All patients will take two weeks of those treatments and a month of follow-up observation. The details of their assessment scale for cervical spondylosis and short-from of McGill pain questionnaire will be tightly observed during the courses. Then we will evaluate the effects of its feasibility and effectiveness.ResultsAfter the treatment, we summed up the results by comparing the score of assessment scale for cervical spondylosis and short-from of McGill pain questionnaire of both groups, which is as follows:No significant difference was between the two groups before the treatment, which basicly achieved a balance between the two groups. After treatment, we compared the score of assessment scale for cervical spondylosis and short-from of McGill pain questionnaire of both groups. Results show that the two groups of patients degree of pain were both significantly improved, the efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding group was better than the acupuncture group. In accordance with the evaluation standard in this study, the effect of two groups after treatment was that the treatment group’s clinical cure rate was33.3%, markedly effective rate was46.7%, effective rate was13.3%, the total effective rate was93.3%while the control group’s clinical cure rate was13.3%, markedly effective rate was30%, the effective rate was36.7%, the total effective rate was80%. Results show that the two groups of patients degree of pain were both significantly improved and the efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding group was better than the acupuncture group. One month after treatment, we find that the patient’s condition of two groups have no significant difference compared with the previous.Conclusions1.The two groups of patients score of assessment scale for cervical spondylosis were both significantly improved, the symptoms-relieving efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding group was better than the acupuncture group.2. The two groups of patients degree of pain were both significantly improved, the pain-relieving efficacy of acupoint catgut embedding group was better than the acupuncture group.3. The total effective rate of the acupoint catgut embedding group is93.3%while the total effective rate of the acupuncture group is80%.4. Acupoint catgut embedding therapy on cervical spondylotic radiculopathy is economic, safe, effective, and worthy of acupuncture clinic promotion.
