Introduction: To investigate whether the allergic factors provide impact on the severityof chronic rhinosinusitis or not, in order to further explore the relationship between allergicrhinitis and chronic rhinosinusitis.Materials and Methods: A retrospective review was done on67patients who admittedto the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, China-Japan Union Hospital from January2009to December2011. All of these patients were under functional intranasal endoscopic sinussurgery after expectant treatment is ineffective。 We divided the patients into differentgroups according to the result of skin prick and specific IgE and if there is difference in VASscore、Lund and Kennedy endoscopic score,Lund-Mackay CT score between the groups. The SPSS17.0software was used to analyze the data. Statistical analysis was performed byt-test、rank order test or chi-square test. Results: It showed that the duration of the disease、VAS score of nasal blockage、nasaldischarge、facial pressure and loss of smell、score of Lund-Mackay CT and Lund andKennedy endoscopic before the operation were in no statistical sense after compared withthe two groups of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis who grouped according the result ofskin prick and specific IgE. The symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis improved by operationand standard treatment after surgery no matter the group of skin prick and specific IgEpositive or negative and no significant difference was seen. The symptoms of sneezing andrhinorrhoea improved after operation among the chronic rhinosinusitis patients with skinprick and specific IgE.However, the symptoms of nose and eyes itching didn’t improve withoperation. Conclusion: Allergic factor didn’t have a great influence upon the severity of chronicrhinosinusitis patients who were failed in expectant treatment and their postoperativeoutcome. Allergic factors didn’t cause significantly influence on the effect of functionalendoscopic sinus surgery. The symptoms of chronic rhinosinusitis improved after surgery nomatter if the allergic factors exist. Allergic symptoms of the patients who were positive inspecific IgE test also improved after the treatment.
