ObjectiveTo compare the visual function and pseudoaccommodation in patients after implantation of the Acrysof ReStor multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) and the Acrysof IQ monofocal intraocular lens(SIOL).MethodsThis was a prospective case series study.47patients (70eyes) with age-related cataract were divided into two groups. There were20patients (35eyes) in the multifocal group, ReSTOR+3D SN6AD1MIOL was implanted after phacoemulsification; There were27patients (35eyes) in the monofocal group, IQ SN60WF SIOL was implanted after phacoemulsification. The following parameters were evaluated1day,1week,1month and3months after surgey:uncorrected distance visual acuity(UCDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity(UCNVA), best corrected distance visual acuity(BCDVA), best corrected near visual acuity(BCNVA), distance corrected near visual acuity(DCNVA), pseudoaccommodation, and near stereoacuity. Patients satisfaction, photic phenomena and spectacle independence were assessed by a questionnaire. The t test or chi-square test was applied to compare the data.ResultsThe UCDVA, BCDVA and BCNVA did not show significantly statistical differences between the two groups (P>0.05). The UCNVA and DCNVA in the multifocal group were significantly higher than those of the monofocal group (P<0.01). The pseudoaccommodation and stereoacuity of the multifocal group were significantly better than those of the monofocal group (P<0.01). The spectacle independence, satisfaction of the near, intermediate visual acuity and the overall satisfaction in the multifocal group were significantly higher than those of the monofocal group (P<0.01). The satisfaction of the distance visual acuity and photic phenomena had no difference between the two groups (P>0.05).ConclusionThe AcrySof ReSTOR+3D MIOL can provide excellent all-distance visual acuity, better pseudoaccommodation and stereoacuity. The quality of life for patients is improved.
