Objective:To elucidate the relationship of between the polymorphism site at the promoter of interleukin-1a,(IL-1a)-889and interleukin-1β,(IL-1β)-511and ischemic srtoke(IS).Methods:A case-control study was taken from440IS patients and486controls matched for age and sex. The gene polymorphism of interleukin-1a-889C/T and interleukin-1β-511C/T were analysed by using polymerase chain reaction and restrictive fragment length polymorphisms. The genotype and allele frequency distribution between IS and controls was compared. The association of gene polymorphism and the risk of IS was analysed by logistic regression to adujust for confounding variables. Results:The results revealed that IL-1a-889T allele were associated with an increased risk of IS(OR=1.304,P=0.006),in addition,-889T significantly increased the risk of IS in large artery atherosclerosis subtype patients (OR=1.405,P=0.001).IL-1β-511T allele werenot increased with the risk of IS.Conclusions:The gene polymorphism at IL-1α-889may be involved in the risk of developing IS,IL-1α-889TT genotype may increased the risk of suffering IS. The gene polymorphism at IL-1β-511may be not involved in the risk of developing IS.
