ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of massage with or without oral medicine in patients with Acute mastitis of early stage. It was designed to provide the basis for an optimal clinical treatment program of Acute mastitis in early stage.MethodsPatients with Acute mastitis were randomly assigned to the treatment group (massage and Chinese herbs plaster without oral medicine) or the control group (massage and Chinese herbs plaster with Chinese herbs decoction named Gualou Niubang Tang). The primary end point was the therapeutic effects and effective rate after treatment.ResultA total of29patients were randomly assigned to the treatment group and29to the control group. The main therapeutic effects after treatment in each group was statistically significant (P<0.05). The total effective rate on the treatment group was92.9%versus96.4%on the control group. There is no obvious statistically difference (P>0.05) in the therapeutic effects after treatment between the two groups. Patients with fever and high white and neutrophil cells counts had a large benefit from the control group (P<0.05). The treatment course on the treatment group was3.54+1.29days versus3.25±1.30days on the control group (P>0.05).ConclusionMassage and Chinese herbs plaster with or without administrating Chinese herbs decoction named Gualou Niubang Tang has the same therapeutic effect in Acute mastitis of early stage. The results establish massage and Chinese herbs plaster without oral medicine as a reasonable choice for women. Consider of the advantages and characteristics of simple manipulations, little adverse effect, lower price and last but not least being easy to be accepted by patients, it is worth advocating to be applied in clinical treatment.
