Clinical Efficacy Of Acupoint Application In Asthma Children Of Different TCM Syndromes Combined With Western Medicine Treatment

Bronchial asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease, which is a recurring problem. In recent years, the prevalence of asthma increased. It caused a higher non-attendance rate of children, a limitation of their physical activity, and brought a negative effect to their social ability. It’s unfavorable to children’s growth. Acupoint application in clinical prevention and treatment of bronchial asthma has a long history. It is used in chronic emission stage and clinical emission stage, and shows a clear effect on preventing the recrudescence of asthma.Object ive:This study in chronic remission stage of bronchial asthma, used the treatment that came from Professor Hua Xu’s clinical experience (the acupoint application Ⅰ), together with western medicine treatment. The patients were made by groups of different TCM syndromes. We observed the symptoms and signs of before and after treatment to assess the clinical efficacy. The study investigated the different syndromes targeted acupoint application for bronchial asthma, and provided some objective basis for further research in selection of drug and acupuncture points.Method:According to1:1ratio,30patients of cold type asthma were randomly divided into treatment and control groups. So were another30patients of heat type asthma. Each group had15patients. The treatment groups were given acupoint application every other day for2-4hours at a time, and taken western medicine treatment everyday. The control groups were only taken western medicine treatment everyday. The treatment lasted3weeks. Finally, each group was compared the major symptoms and signs score before and after treatment, and contrasted with each other. According to the main symptoms and signs, we assessed asthma control level and recorded skin reactions in the third week. At last, all research data was typed in the computer, and analyzed for a result with SPSS19.0statistical software.Results:1. The symptoms and signs score of the four groups decreased significantly after treatment, and the differences between before and after were statistically significant (P<0.05). The above showed that the treatment in each group could alleviate the symptoms and signs of asthma chronic remission stage.2. In the first week, the integral of cold type asthma treatment group decreased more obviously than cold type asthma control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The integral of heat type asthma treatment group decreased more obviously than heat type asthma control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The difference between the integral of the cold type asthma treatment group and the heat type asthma treatment group was not statistically significant (P>0.05). In the second and the third week, there was no significant difference of these four groups’ score (P>0.05). It showed that acupoint application combined with western medicine treatment could relieved symptoms and signs more quickly than the western medicine group, while the long-term effect of all groups tended to similar. It also showed that the acupoint application I was equally effective for the cold and heat type asthma.3. Contrasted to the efficiency for4groups in the third week, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).4. Compared each group’s situations of the asthma control level, the number of patients who got "control" in cold type asthma treatment group was more than that in cold type asthma control group. So was the number of patients in heat type asthma treatment group. But the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).5.60cases of children using acupoint application were not found any pain, blisters, skin allergies or other serious adverse reactions.Conclusion:Combines with the western medicine treatment, acupoint application with corresponding acupoints is an effective and quick therapy for patients in bronchial asthma chronic remission stage to relieve main syndromes. It helps to get "control" much faster, and has a similar effect on the cold and heat type asthma. Acupoint application is effective, safe, convenient, and well compliant to the patients. It is worthy to be promoted in clinic.
