BackgroundAlong with the social aging process, the incidence of osteoporosis shows ascendant trend. Our latest census showed the population of over60years old has reached170million, accounting for13.26%of the total population, we have already entered the aging society. The high incidence of osteoporotic fractures, the high morbidity and mortality not only seriously affect the life quality of the elderly and their family, but also bring about huge economic and social health burden, and this has become a global public health problem. Osteoporosis is a progressive and irreversible pathological process, bone loss results in generalized low quality of bone and increased fracture risk. Health education and community health care are very important for preventing osteoporosis and osteoporotic fracture. We have designed and developed a "Osteoporosis Knowledge Assessment Questionnaire(OKAQ) to investigate and assess the awareness and knowledge of Guangzhou Communities, and it is also useful for assessing the effects or health education. The theory of Preventing and treating a disease before it happens " in Traditional Chinese Medicine is the guidance of our work and the OKAQ. Here, OKAQ were applied to investigate and analyze the awareness and knowledge of community residents in the Pearl River Delta Communities.ObjectiveThe aim of my work is to investigate the knowledge and awareness of the community residents in Pearl River Delta, and assess preference and cognition of them by the OKAQ. This will provided a basic view of the knowledge about osteoporosis in these communities, and will help us to design a program for the health education and health management in these areas.Method1.2011.1-2012.1, OKAQs were assigned to the community residents as a simple random survey in Pearl River Delta. All the residents had been instructed how to completed the questionnaire by themselves independently before them took and read it.2. Excel2003was used for data inputting and management, and SPSS17.0for statistical analysis.3. Statistical methods:frequency questionnaire scores table statistics; T-test, Oneway ANOVA and Rank sum test were used in analyzing the scores; Logistic Regression was conducted to study the relationships between the scores and sex, age, occupation, education background。Results1. A total of1600questionnaires were issued,1456were returned,1272were valid.2. Community residents in the Pearl River Delta region significantly lower than men for the OP awareness of women; The middle aged and elderly people, low-educated people, agricultural production, worker and non-professionals OP awareness level is relatively low. The score in diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis-related knowledge is low.Conclusions1. The Pearl River Delta region population of OP have some degree of understanding, but the cognitive level is low. The community are lack of diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis-related knowledge.2.The score difference between different gender, age, education and occupation is significant. |
