The good traits of the mother plant could be fully maintained by hardwood cutting, and its gender was identified easily. This technique would not only provide many excellent varieties of seedlings for Hippophae rhamnoides L. orchard, but also provide scientific guidance for implementing standardizes planting and integrated utilization. This paper studied the hardwood cutting propagation techniques of Hippophae rhamnoides L..The main results were summarized as follows:(1) In those branches of1-3years, the older they were, the better the rooting effected.the2~3years old cuttings on the middle and lower parts of the crown had the highest rooting rate. Within the range of15-25cm, the longer the cutting was, the better the rooting effected, for those of less than20cm length cuttings, oblique incision treatment could increase the rooting rate. The location of branches had no significant effect on cuttings, but the middle and the lower parts of the branches could increase rooting rate. And the cuttings collected both the male and female plants had no significant effect on rooting.(2) The cuttings planted in plastic greenhouses with high temperature and humidity conditions had higher rooting rate than that in the open field, and the cuttings which planted in fruit marc:nursery soil (1:2) had the highest rooting rate.(3) The type of hormones and the processing time had very significant effects on the rooting rate of cuttings, but the hormone concentrations had no significant effect on the rooting rate of cuttings. The best combination for hardwood cutting was that IAA with the concentration of100ppm after6hours treatment, and thus, the rooting rate could reach a maximum, value of86%. In order to save costs, we selected the rooting substitution agent which were produced by Shandong Jia Feng Agricultural Co.,Ltd and Chaohu City Flower soil improvement factory, and the average rooting rate could reach up to79.33%and72.67%.(4) Hippophae rhamnoides L. cuttings was an integrated rooting type which mainly includes phloem rooting and minority of callus rooting. The new roots were mainly concentrated in the location of0.5~3.5cm under the lower incision. After20days, the rooting speed of the cuttings slowed down, and artificial fertilization was necessary to accelerate the growth of root numbers and root length.
