Magnetic field is a kind of special material which can not be seen but can be detected. It has the radiation characteristics of wave particle. With the development of science and technology, the further understanding of the magnetic field could be founded by the application of magnetized water. Also that of the growth and development of the seedlings,as well as the physiological metabolism of the plants, could be stimulated by the magnetization.Mulberry(Morus alba)is an important economic tree in China,It usually adopts grafting and cutting propagation methods. However, the survival rate of mulberry cuttings is lower because of the limitation of different species and regional climate. In this paper, magnetizers with 0 Gs,600 Gs,1400 Gs and 2200 Gs were used to irrigate the cuttings of mulberry, and the non-magnetized water of 0 Gs was set as the control(CK).The effects of different intensity of magnetic field on the physiological characteristics of rooting of hard branch cuttings of "Lu Cha No.1" mulberry were analyzed,by measuring the contents of soluble protein and soluble sugar, the level of endogenous hormone, the enzyme activities, and the indexes of root morphology and mass fraction of root mineral elements of the one-year mulberry cuttings. The results were showed as follows:(1)root biomass, total root length, total surface area, total volume, average diameter and root morphology of the cuttage seedlings were significantly increased by the magnetization(P < 0.05).The number of the first root, the root activity level and the rooting rate(P < 0.05)were significantly improved. The higher of the magnetic induction intensity, the more obvious of the promoting effect by the magnetization.(2)The activities of POD,IAAO,PPO and SOD in the whole rooting period of mulberry cuttings were significantly improved by magnetized water, compared to that of the CK(P <0.05).The activities of alpha amylase, beta amylase and ATP enzyme were significantly increased in duration of rooting induction(P < 0.05).(3)The content of soluble sugar and soluble protein in mulberry cuttings were significantly promoted during irrigating with magnetized water(P < 0.05).The higher strength of magnetic field, the more obvious influence gotted, thereby, the molecular weight of tryptophan was significantly increased(P< 0.05)by the 2200 Gs in duration of rooting induction.(4)The contents of nitrogen, potassium and zinc were significantly higher than that of the control,in the root system of the cuttings(P < 0.05).The iron mass fraction was significantly decreased(P < 0.05)with the higher intensity of the magnetic filed.Otherwise, there was no significant difference to the contents of phosphorus, manganese and copper.(5)The level of indolo butyric acid(IBA)(P < 0.05)was significantly increased in the induction period of rooting by irrigation of magnetized water, which inhibited the level of indolo acetic acid(IAA)abscisic acid(ABA)and zein(ZT)(P < 0.05).In conclusion,we can see that the magnetic treatment could influence the root formation by affecting the physical and chemical properties of the cuttings of 'Lu Cha No.1',while the magnetization could stimulate the growth and development of the cuttings, and improved the survival rate of the seedlings, with elongated treated time.
