Research And Design Of The Intelligent Traffic Signal Control System Based On PLC

The transportation issue is a big problem in our country’s economic development. As thepopulation pressure, modernization and urbanization of our country, the problem isincreasingly conspicuous. Traffic convenience is the main criterion for judging the standardof the city living and the investment environment. The commonly used traffic system istiming controlled system in our country, which is ineffective and causes traffic congestion.Research and design of the intelligent traffic signal control system which based on PLC iscarried out under this condition.This paper presents a intelligent traffic system which can prolong the green timeautomatically, controlled by the small Programmable Logical Controller(S7-200PLC).Doughnut coil detector is used for detecting the existence and pass of the vehicle. And thebuilt-in counter of PLC counts the number of stranded vehicle. According to some intelligentcontrol principle, green time is prolonged automatically determined by the number ofstranded vehicle. With this system, the transportation efficiency is raised, and thetransportation hustle is alleviated.
