During the period of construction and service, multiple uncertainties may cause failures of bridges. In this thesis, a total of916bridge accidents at home and abroad are collected and then investigated from different views by statistical analysis, several measures to prevent bridge accidents are proposed at last.Firstly, the thesis introduces the characteristics of the bridge accidents from two basic reasons:human error and nature disaster. In terms of human error, it involes several reasons such as design, construction, management, collision and others. The nature disaster consists of flood, geological, meteorological, earthquake, etc. Human error accounts for a higher proportion of bridge accidents, which is caused by one, two or more causes that could be avoided by appropriate measures. On the other hand, natural disaster has a relatively low proportion of bridge accidents, which is determined by specific environmental factors that are not easy to control and prevent.Secondly, through the collection of916bridge accidents at home and abroad, this thesis investigates bridge accidents by statistical analysis thoroughly from four perspectives which include accident cause, structure type, material and application, accident loss as well as occurrence time and regional distribution. Finally, several precautions for bridge accidents are suggested, which may be a helpful reference for the design, construction and management.
