Chinese cigarette packaging design visually expresses cigarettes’characteristic fragrance, flavor and core technology by applying modern design theory and style, highlights traditional Chinese culture and ethnic features, thus endowing the package of Chinese cigarettes with excellent visual effect and functionality, conveying the connotation of the brand and enhancing the image of products. The Article reviews the history and current status of the package of Chinese cigarettes, explains design elements and expressive techniques applied in the design, and compares creative concepts and structural features between foreign and Chinese cigarettes’ packages with case study. Taking Baisha as an example, the Article analyzes its development process, summarizes its successful experience on package design, and studies&puts forward the development tendency of design of cigarette packages.The packing design’s techniques, characteristics and principles of Chinese style cigarette are researched. Basing on market survey, data analysis and case study, the Article discusses techniques and features of package design of Chinese cigarettes, and puts forward the principle that the package should reflect Chinese culture and ethnic features."Baisha" brand series of cigarette packaging design techniques and characteristics are researched and summarized. From the perspective of art theory the Article focuses on the origin of famous cigarette brand Baisha, China’s first "Cultural Cigarette". It’s concluded that the combination of Chinese culture and the brand felicitously shows the rich meaning of "crane" and "harmony", successfully interprets the culture of brand, and reflects the features of brands; The design features and expression are which distinguished cigarette grade, smoke flavor characteristics through color. Thus achieving its excellent visual effect and functionality and accomplishing goals that deliver connotation of the brand, enhance the image of products and add value to them at a high level. Chinese style cigarette packaging design’s innovative ideas of development strategies and warning design are proposed. Basing upon case study and research of design theory, the Article puts forward coping strategies, creative thinking and development trend of package design of Chinese cigarettes under smoking control environment. For example, warning design of characters and graphics should be added to intensify the persuasive and warning functions of smoking control; the design theory of green package, structure, style, graphics, characters and color should meet the aesthetic requirement of green products, thus visually creating the back-to-basics and back-to-nature atmosphere for customers; multi series of cigarettes should be developed around one brand by taking advantage of brand effects, thus to optimize its diversity, compositionality and uniformity.
