In China, besides bulk grain carriers, both general cargo ships and normal bulk carriers are engaged in the shipping of bulk grain, which may induce huge risk because of the characteristics of bulk grain. In the past, during the stability checking of the non-bulk-grain carriers carrying bulk grains, much hand calculation work is needed due to the complexity of the grain heeling moment in a non-standard grain hold. The calculation of the residual area between the heeling arm curve and righting arm curve is based on the Simpson’s Principles or the Simplified Method, and thus gives a poor accuracy. Also, when the Administration reviews the stability of these ships, such time-consuming work must be repeated. Therefore,it is necessary to build a web-based system to simplify the stability checking of all types of ships carrying bulk grain, and thus to lighten the burden of the ship and the Administration.Based on Browser/Sever mode, this system will accomplish the calculation of ship’s stability through the network. This system uses C#as programming language, SQL Server as database system, weaving the web page by HTML、CSS、JavaScript. The principles and regulations in the paper are based on "International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk" and other related domestic regulations and rules. The depiction of GZ curve is based on cubic spline.Users of this system own different authorizations, so the system provides different pages for them. For normal users, this system provides registration, ship structure data submission and results inquiry. And for administrators, it provides calculation of the ship’s stability, reset of users’profiles, output of results, and suggestions of operation improvement. After being tested by ships, this system runs well.
