Study On Bulk Grain Carrier’s Stability Calculation Method And Process In Different Countries

This paper particularly analyze the characteristics of bulk grain and the requirement of stability checking of IMO 《International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk》 combining the stability check practice in different countries in transport of bulk grain carrier.The strict stability criteria for bulk grain carriers make the stowage calculation extremely complicated. In addition, there are some different explanations and executions for the provisions of the Code in some major grain export countries such as USA, CANADA and AUSTRALIA, which have their individual grain stability calculation. This article puts forward some notes when conducting the stability checking in those countries through research of the USA, CANADA and AUSTRALIA stability calculation sheet and its method and process. Further, draw an attention to the same/different points by comparison of grain stability checking method and process between those three countries. In the last, put forward in details the checking notes and correction measures on the basis of the practice of USA grain stability calculation in its main port.This paper can assist the ship’s crew to understand and master the checking principle and the method of grain stability calculation, to improve the work efficiency and accuracy, to enhance the grain management, to promote the ship operation and to ensure the safe grain carriage by sea, through researching the calculation method of stability elements in the IMO 《International Code for the Safe Carriage of Grain in Bulk》 and the checking method and process in the major grain transportation countries.
