In2010, China surpassed the U.S. as the world’s largest energy consumer. Until now, however,Coal and oil is the main body in our country’s primary energy consumption structure, natural gas accounts for only about4.0%, far below the23.8%of the world’s average level. Therefore, increasing the share of natural gas in energy consumption will produce tremendous benefits for our country not only in economic but alsosociety.Due to limited domestic output and unbalanced distribution of natural gas in main productive regions and main sale regions,it is bound to need to import large amounts of natural gas from abroad. LNG carriersare the main tool for importing natural gas besides pipeline importation. But the LNG terminal and special wharfmust be constructed to meet LNG carriers, it will cost a lot of time and enormous investment. The LNG tank container transportation mode solved this difficult problem with lesser investment, high efficiency and good mobility. At present, LNG tank container marine transportation has made preliminary progress in our country, and it is essential to be specialized with more deeper and systematic research. In order to clarify the safety of LNG tank container transportation on the sea, this thesis studied the whole transportation process on LNG tank containers, introduced the basic structure and its standards referring to international conventions, domestic and international laws, regulations, etc.; analyzed factors influencing the holding time.Combining with the risk model, carried out quantitative risk assessment for LNG tank container port transportation. Through the above research, it provided a reference and experiencefor LNG tank container marine transportation, also laid the foundation for the multi-modal transportationof LNG tank container.
