With the rapid development of the national economy and accelerating process of the urbanization, the number of urban vehicle is rising. And resulting in urban transport problems is an important issue in urban development. With the expansion of urban area people travel more, people are constantly put forward new demands.Geographic information systems(GIS) as a database and computer graphics integrated, handling and storing spatial information interdisciplinary, can combine the location of the urban space and traffic-related attributes; according to actual needs, show to the user the picture with explanation in accurate, to meet the needs of different users, the different needs of different departments of spatial information. And GIS have the capability of spatial analysis and visualization explanation, which helps city managers assisted analysis, and provides decision support.In this paper, we study and analysis the architecture and the implementation mode of webgis; Introduce the current situation and prospects of the open source in webgis. Study and compare the mainstream of software of webgis. And finally build a traffic information service platform upon open source webgis GeoServer, PostgreSQL and PostGIS. The main contents and results are as follows:1) Nowadays network has penetrated into every aspect of life, Management and release the spatial data using webgis system not only can make people getting data more quickly, but also can real-time update the data. Make sure the correctness, integrity and fresh of the data.2) Management and release the spatial data using webgis system can improve sharing of data、avoid duplication of work and the waste of resources.3) Analyse that the Dijkstra algorithm is not suitable for handling bus transfer issues, the platform uses the n-th bus transfer algorithms, and taking into account the traffic situation on the impact of the transfer, making the platform more practical significance.4) Using open source characteristic of open webgis system, developers can better understand webgis software designer’s purpose, and can maximize the strengths of open webgis system.The traffic information service platform is based on webgis of server, the client using standard HTML mode. The users can access it via the browser through the Internet at anytime and anywhere. The platform developed for the practical application of traffic geographic information to do a useful exploration establishment of a simple traffic information service platform, and also provide a reference for the development of other traffic information service platform. The platform, which is useful explore of the traffic GIS’s practical application, establishes a simple traffic information service platform and provides an effective reference for developing other traffic system.
