With the development of economic society and quickly urbanized progress, the city public traffic has developed rapidly. The public traffic is an important component of city public traffic network. Because of the characteristics of broad coverage, convenience and quick, the public traffic was still the majority people's first choice at present. As the bus lines being changed continuously, it was difficult for passengers to choose the optimal route by bus.As its powerful spatial analysis function, the geographic information system has been obtained wide and spread application in the field of transportation. Therefore, it's a strongly demand of city public traffic for establishing a public traffic's data model and developing the convenient public traffic information query system. By using GIS software's function of data processing and route analysis, the system could provide the general and accurate public traffic information for the people who go out by bus. And it is also one of the most important factors to realize the informationization of city public traffic.The research in this paper is based on Jinan's city public traffic network. The paper's whole framework is based on establishing model, studying algorithm and achievement. According to the characteristics of city traffic network, its topology structure was described by making use of the structure of node, arc and directed line segment. The spatial database of city public traffic information query system was proposed by using dynamic segmentation. In view of the passengers' traveling psychology, "walk analysis", "the least transfer" and "the least station passes" were taken as the determinate standard of public transportation optimal route. And then an optimal route algorithm of the public traffic was presented. To begin with the main design of city public traffic information query system, it was presented in detail that the system's objective, the main structure, the major function as well as system's development environment, including develope mode and tools, GIS platform, database software as well as data accessing way and so on. The city public traffic information query system was designed by adopting the integrated development mode of Delphi and MapInfo. By entering the query information or operating the digital map directly, the user could acquire optimal route and scheme of transfer to another bus. Finally, a query example was provided. Seen from the experimental result, the conclusion could be drawn that this system can provide the optimal route and scheme of transfer accurately and fleetly, which may satisfy the user' query demand. By using this system, the conveniency and efficiency of public transportation could be improved.
