Boring is an important step in machining. In order to improve accuracy and reduce the surface roughness, preferably to correct the skew of the original bore axis, we generally use boring machine for parts’further processing. In order to improve production efficiency and reduce production cycle, the processing and maintenance of the ship’s shafting as well as the key parts are generally used on-site machining and assembly, Which the ordinary can not meet the work requirements for the size, weight and other problems.The purpose of this study is to design a portable marine boring machine. Its main work is to process and maintain shafting holes, meanwhile to process large parts of the seat hole which ordinary one can not be processed. After analysis from the aspect of mechatronic, the research will conducted from the following two aspects:first, whether mechanical selection and structure design are adaptive to the control requirements or not; second, whether the unique structure of the design is able to meet the on board processing requirements or not. During the design of structure, we minimize the size of the part under the principle of the design of the boring machine. First, we choose worm drive as transmission drive after analysis various of mechanical transmission drive mode on the property of the machine, because it not only overcome the transmission stationarity but also satisfied the boring and cutting with the large transmission ratio. Second, using the servo motor as the prime mover to improve the response performance and reduces the volume of the apparatus. Third, considering the motor shaft connected to high-speed and low-speed as well as the linear transition, we choose planetary gear, mainly on account of its small size, carrying capacity, working smooth and other advantages. Because of the ends of the planetary gear have a large speed differences, we use the finite element analysis software ANSYS to analysis and optimization the size of the force and the position during the design of its internal gear contact, which will short the development cycles, improve the efficiency. In terms of controlling:to improve the control precision and working precision, we use PLC, has been widely used in the industrial, control the servo motor of the boring machine. PLC control makes parametric control easier, and it’s rewritable make us to adjust the parametric under different cutting objects easily. Besides we used two servo motors control the spindle of the device and the feed system respectively, to improve the flexibility of control; and made a touch-screen console taking to make it easier for operator. After optimizing the mechanical structure, developing the control system, boring accuracy has been improved. Portable marine boring machine has realized parametric processing, reduced labor intensity, and improved work efficiency. According to its characteristics, portable marine boring machine can be used in the processing and maintenance of the ship the shafting as well as the key parts, which will have a good application value.
