| Children are the most frequent users of open space in the city’s residential areas, except their companions. Therefor, the planners and designers are obliged to paying much attention to the psychology needs and environmental behavior of young people.The article analyzed the differences between young people and adults based on the characteristics of psychology and environmental behavior. The results showed that children’s outdoor activities are dimension-specific, time-limiting, age-exclusive, sex-exclusive and egocentric. We suggest that the concept of Child-friendly, which concludes accessibility, safety, comfort and versatility, could be used in the outdoor environment constructing in residential areas. Child-friendly Degree was advanced as the quantitative index of the outdoor environment level and extracted thirty detailed evaluation elements based on the analyzation of landscape elements in a variety of open spaces (e.g. park, square and streets). After the probation in Daguan Park, the evaluation elements were optimized and modified. Via being consulted to fifty experts, we have caculated the weight values of evaluation elements by AHP, tested the judge matrix by consistency and established the improved evaluation system. The evaluation questionairs were provided in three different open spaces in Hangzhou residential areas, the collected data was caculated by FCE to obtain the Child-friendly Degree of these open spaces. At the last, the caculated figures were compared with the results of the behavior observation and the depth interview. The result shows that the evaluation system of Child-friendly Degree could cover the elements of open space related to children’s outdoor activities completely and evaluate the overall quality of open spaces in residential areas correctely. Furthermore, the evaluation system could be applied in dicision-making processes of alternative open space programs after revised by reverse-faintness method and should be researched and developed persistently. |
