Urban distribution network is an important link between the power source andusers, and it undertakes the task of transmitting and distributing electric power to theusers. Risk assessment of urban distribution network is conducted in order to ensurethe power grid operates safely and reliably. It can not only find the weak links of thepower network but also provide basis for network planning to reduce the possibleoperation risk of planning power grid. The outcome of the risk assessment can takenas the must-chosen basis for multiple plans. The magnitude of the risk assessment candirectly influence the economic development of the city, so the research in this field isvery important.Based on the reliability study of urban medium voltage distribution grid, the riskrespectively from the components, network structure, operation and other variousaspects are analyzed in this paper; the severity of the accidents is focused analyzed. Then the classification of risk indicators is obtained comprehensively. According tothe relationship between the risk indicators, the risk evaluation models for urbandistribution network are proposed which include equipment risk model, grid structurerisk model and operation risk model. The entropy formula is discussed which is applicable for urban distributionnetwork risk assessment in this paper. According to the idea of double base points, the closeness degree of the evaluated urban distribution network is analyzed. On thebasis of the proposed risk assessment models, the method for risk assessment of citydistribution network based on entropy is put forward. Finally, the risk of actual urban distribution network is evaluated by theestablished risk assessment models and the risk method.
