In recent years, as the continuous improvement of environmental requirements by people,residential space environment quality gets more attention. While kinds of green space, with itsconstruction in the residential space in the important position, will directly affect the qualityof residential building. Therefore, the research of green space for residential buildings isparticularly important and urgent.Guangzhou has a long history and a higher degree of modernization, the residentialconstruction development has been at the forefront of. At the same time, The climatecharacteristic of Guangzhou is hot, humid, enough sunshine, rainfall, so the demand of greenspace for residential is far more than many northern city. In addition, Guangzhou had a varietyof green plants as well as good plant growth conditions, its provides favorable conditions forthe construction of green space. Based on the above, this article will take Guangzhou’sresidential green space as the research object, discusses some design methods and theoreticalinnovation. At the same time, combined with the different characteristic of lower layer,multi-layer, high-rise residential, summed up their green space types, characteristics andfunctions, as well as the the relationship between green space and green plant、plant speciesselection, plant disposition methods, in order to provide reference and lessons to thedevelopment of green space in residential buildings.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part of this research related concept, background, purpose, significance,methods, research scope and object and the current status of the research.The second part introduces the role of green space in residential construction and theevolution and characteristics of residential green space in Guangzhou、the elaboration and theanalysis of correlation theory，such as spatial scale.The third part introduces the characteristics of green space in residential area and therelationship between green space and green plant separately from the lower layer, themulti-storey and high-rise residential buildings.
