The Protection Of Panyu Shawan Town’s Historic Authenticity

Since the1980s and1990s, the emphasis on protection and renewal of the historic districthas been increasing in China. For the political, economic and other factors, each city thinkshow to protect the historic district of city in a renewable way,and there are many successful orfailed protection and update cases during this period, such as Shanghai Xintiandimode, Suzhou Tong Fong Lane "mode, Tongxiang Wuzhen" mode,"Nanchizi" mode and soon,but these modes can’t be applied mechanically to each historic district. Blind convergenceof other modes will make historic district loss its true unique,and fall in a vicious cycle ofdestructive construction.So, to protect the authenticity of the historic district became the corepurpose,that is all practice’s guiding ideology.This article takes the protection and renewal of Shawan town as the practical basis, reviewssome decisions and specific measures in the project, summarizes that the core is to protect theauthenticity of the ancient town. At home and abroad, the concept of "authenticity" has longbeen related theory, and it commonly be used to guide the historic district’s protection andrenewal engineering.On the basis of these theories and practices,this text analyzes historicdistrict’s authenticity in a deep and systematic way,mainly from material and Intangibleaspects,to expand problem and explore answer. The material one is specific to therelationship between the historical district and city, the historical district’s skin texture andfunction in the space dimension, and the diversity of the traditional architectures in thepast,the strange but practical space now, the possibility of new buildings in future in timedimension. The Intangible one takes life as pointcut, discusses the relationship of indigenousstructure, lifestyle and the ancient town’s atmosphere in the private and public life, andexplore the protection and inheritance of folk culture.This research make the initial project ofShawan town as main object, and take some domestic cases for reference. Not as other articlesmake the reference cases modeled, this paper doesn’t judges cases arbitrarily successful or not,but analyzes their respective methods and results in every small problem,to deepen the deepencognition on protecting authenticity, through comparing and concluding their advantages anddisadvantages. What’s more, based on the cognition and reflection of the initial project, thispaper gives some suggestions to guide the subsequent protection and renewal projects ofShawan town.
