The transport of bulk carrier is very important in the world shipping, and the safety of bulk carriers should be paid more attention to. In November 1997, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) had decided that bulk carriers of 150 m and upwards shall be fitted with loading instrument, to help for navigator in more quickly and accurately calculating and checking the related data to ensure the safety of bulk carrier. Now, all of loading instrument is made use of computer, be called "loading computer".Now, most of software of loading computer for bulk carrier is designed for alone ship, there is no generality, and the function of software is only to calculate and check the stability, strength, draft and trim. It's not make full use of the computer and no intelligent function for navigator. During loading and unloading, there are many questions can be solved by make full use of the computer. In order to make full use of the loading computer to serve the navigator, this paper introduces the calculating principle and method of buoyancy, stability and strength, the related check method of IMO. Basing on this, the paper is investigated in following:l.the method of designing general software of loading computer for bulk carrier and more kind of suitable starter;2.make automatic loading plan basing on the weight of cargo and planning draft & trim;3.calculate the trimming cargo data basing on the existing draft;4.the best way of loading turn;5.calculation of draft survey;6.basing on the existing draft, calculate the change of draft and trim which is caused by the change of water density. All of those are required to be solved during the loading of bulk carrier, they have more practical value .
