| Highway passenger transportation is the most commonly, directly and conveniently used public transport service among other three major ones including railway transport service, waterage service and air transport service. Comparing with highway passenger transportation, other three more or less have several negative characters. For example, railway transportation needs high input for rail pavement and therefore, it is greatly influenced by the topography factors. Waterage service not only needs river or lake as the basis, but also runs at the slow speed. Air transport service needs high transport cost. Thus, there is an extremely high potential for highway passenger transportation development. In the recent years, the increasing number of bus passenger terminals has been driven to be built due to our countries’ high input for highway construction.The paper focused on the bus passenger terminal. It began to do the survey on its current situation in our country. Via studying on both the national and international advanced cases, the paper discussed new functional demands of bus passenger terminals in the new period and put forward its two major characters which are "no transit" and "composite function". According to the research evidence, the general design guidelines were provided to create a non-transit bus passenger terminal. Lastly, after studying on two design proposals, the design guidelines were further developed in order to make a reference for the function design of the urban bus passenger terminals in the future.The goal of this paper was to reasonably design the non-transit urban bus passenger terminal. First, the study analyzed the relevant theory and historical changes of the urban bus station, and the meanings of the urban transport hub in our country.and then discussed the appearance of the urban intermodal transportation transfer complex. After investigating the functional characteristics of the urban bus passenger terminal, the study summarized the changes in thought of its functional design. Next, the study further researched on the function composition, function layout and traffic circulation of the contemporary urban bus passenger terminal. Based on the research, the general design guidelines were provided at last. |
