Research On Construction Method Of Traditional Civil Construction In Southern Hunan

With the repairing of ancient architectures in recent years, people maybe have toface the situation that many traditional construction skills will be lost. Facing such anissue, the nation’s related departments have put great emphasize on it, and have takensome effective measures to protect the old crafts. In addition, some scientists andresearchers have positively devoted into the construction method and have got someachievements. However, the construction method for southern Hunan is rarely studiedsince there is a big regional difference of construction method in different places.Southern Hunan is located in the south of Hunan, bounded by Nanling withGuangdong. Depend on its regional characteristics, unique natural environment andcultural tradition, Southern Hunan forms a unique type of traditional civilconstruction. For traditional civil researches of Southern Hunan, mostly were aboutits architectural plane, architectural culture, decorative features and other aspects.This paper talks about construction method which is the supplement for traditionalcivil researches of Southern Hunan and also is a new attempt of research perspective.This paper is mainly divided into three parts. The first part is chapter one whichtalks about the research background, the study purpose and significance, correlativeresearch results and study contents and methods. The second part is from chapter twoto chapter five, and it firstly introduce the natural environment, humanistic history,national overview and other aspects of Southern Hunan, then have a classifiedintroduction and research on the traditional civil construction of Southern Hunanwhich is the dependant body of construction method. On the basic of all these, thestudy on construction method is developed. Construction method consists of threeaspects, that is construction process and geomantic concept, construction techniqueand decoration technique. Construction process and geomantic concept are studied theconstruction method on the perspective of design, folklore, belief ant other aspects.Construction technique includes the build and manufacture process of carpentry, wall,roof and floor. Decoration technique includes the study on the materials, themes,contents, expression techniques, tools, concrete technology and other aspects of woodcarving, stone carving, brick carving, and painting. The third part is chapter six whichstudy the protection and inheritance of construction method about traditional civilconstruction of Southern Hunan. From analysis of the problems, which is needed to faced, to the significance of protection and inheritance, and finally to the study onseeking the methods of protection and inheritance.
