The Dong is one of the minority nationalities which has a long history in the south of China. In2000the fifth national census, the population had reached2960000in china. Dong today mainly in Guizhou, Guangxi, Hunan and Hubei provinces adjacent to the southwestern region in some areas. In Hunan Province, Dong is mainly in the Western region. Living in southern Hunan Dong we call "Southern Dong", mainly concentrated in the Tongdao County and Jingzhou County. Living in the Western North called "North Dong," they mainly live in the Xinhuang county and Zhijiang county. In the specific natural environment, the Dong people create their own unique culture and traditional livelihood patterns. As the local geographical differences and the impact of the Han Chinese political, cultural, economic. In Ming and Qing Dynasties, the region of northwestern Dong villages in Hunan with direct contact with Chinese culture show many other aspects of the change about physical form, social structure, cultural identity and so on. They are controlled by central dynasty and influence d by political forces. It is different to the South Dong about social and cultural. These are embodied in the form of these villages and other visual phenomena.This paper focuses on two types of South Dong and North Dong about their historical and cultural background to find out their different historical and cultural characteristics. These are traceability we need which cover the history and development, cultural identity, social structure, religion and other aspects of the research. Then start from the village form, it includes the village site and the settlement pattern comparison, village morphology contrast, the village space contrast and residential architectural forms and their distribution. In morphological structure of the village, the article mainly contain the overall pattern of the village, environmental and cultural aspects of the layout of the space on the icon to start three studies. Village space is a focus for the section of this article. The chapter on village space is divided into boundary, public space, traffic space discussed in three directions in order to identify similarities and differences between the South Dong and North Dong village in southwestern Hunan. In contrast to residential construction in the form and distribution, we study the form of their houses and the terrain adaptability. At the last, this paper describes the reason about differences between the South Dong and North Dong village morphology to explore the cultural change, the development of a causal relationship to the village to give some advice on protection of the village.
