The Analysis And Evaluation Of City Park Defensible Space Design

With the social development, urban open space is slowly integrated into people’s lives. It is the living room of a city, public entertainment, communication exchanges, self-cultivation comfortable place, and also provides a variety of possibilities for people’s lives. Meanwhile, with the accelerated process of urbanization, urban crime has become one of the social problem in various cities."Building a Safer City" has become the common aspirations of the cities. Defensible space theory came into being.It is based on the idea of "Crime prevention through environmental design", contains a profound insight on the environmental behavior and psychological laws, therefore, the theory can be regarded as a general principle in environmental design. Defensible space theory is applied to the design of park space for visitors to provide a safe and comfortable leisure and entertainment, making people the ideal communication space, play park real value. Defensible space theory published nearly40years, the domestic Architecture and planning group mainly concentrated in the urban residential space for prevention and control, defensive design for urban open space research rarely, and the research of the park is basically a blank. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out the study of the subject.This paper is in close contact with the public life of city parks in the urban open space as an entry point. Chengdu People’s Park, as the theoretical basis of environmental psychology and behavioral geography, as a carrier of open space, from a design standpoint to interpret the behavior of the space in the park as the main feeling mode in order to evaluate the park space environment on human psychology defense and space defense of the design value. Through detailed analysis of the relationship between space environment and public activities of ChengDu people’s park, to analyze and evaluate defensible space design of the people’s park, puts forward some Suggestions on the problems existing in the design.Chengdu People’s Park is located in the downtown area, and it has a long history. The Park is a large amount of visitors, high usage of the public garden. After the changes of the times, people’s Park constantly updates, comply with public life, become a defensive park, welcomed by the public.Through investigation and analysis,we can reach the following conclusion:(1) The field level divided in the People’s Park is not clear enough, and also less of semi-private areas.it is necessary to add some semi-private areas. The definition of space it, public events are safe and orderly. (2) There is more opportunities for the park to provide natural surveillance, but the trees in the park are more leafy, poor sight permeability, and have a negative impact on the conduct of the observation activities.(3)The image of the park environment is good, neat, and clean. Visitors in the park have a strong sense of belonging and identification, but the configuration of the facility is not enough. The proposal is to increase the recreational facilities.(4)The environment surrounding the park is safety, and the transportation is convenient, but the boundary of the park is closed. It is suggested to adjust the large plant proportion of the boundary, keep the permeability of the border, close relationship with surrounding environment park.In order to build defensive space, designers need consider the interior space in the park, and also the environment outside the park. At the same time, it also needs a lot of assistance and support of other social workers.Only by a common effort, we can achieve defensible space.
