Applied Research On Water Town Regional Style Used In The Design Of Lingnan Commercial-pedestrian Block

Nowadays, when it is rapidly developed in economic and single universal civilizationspread across the world, it is depleted that innumerable resources of diversified civilizationwhich have created great culture, and more and more traditional culture and regional style aredisplaced by assimilated cosmopolis. That means the failure to inherit local folk, the damageof old regional architecture, and shock on regional economic, which lead to the vanishment oftraditional culture as well as regional culture. Threaten by these, it has turned to be aninescapable responsibility to preserve regional history, continue its context, and prosper localeconomic, in order to connect traditional culture with history, and to inherit and regenerateregional style.Based on the theory above, taking the Lingnan area as example, the author researches onapplying the regional style of water town in Lingnan area to the design ofcommercial-pedestrian block. The research summarizes the regional style of water town inLingnan area with significant informations such as settlement pattern, architectural form, andlandscape characteristic, rejecting the dross and keeping the essence, to select the elementsappropriate for showing regional style from commercial-pedestrian block; and, as well,discusses on the foundation of applying commercial-pedestrian block on this regional style,in terms of historical culture, ecology environment, geomorphic features, and regionalemotion, in order to avoid misusing regional style. Furthermore, this research alsosummarizes the commercial space and behavior of traditional water town, to present thetraditional commercial intention through commercial-pedestrian block. Besides, based onthe discussion and summary above, this research studies the way and feasibility of engagingregional style in the design of commercial-pedestrian block.Finally, in view of the study above on the regional style of water town in Lingnan area,traditional commercial intention, and mergence of regional style and the design ofcommercial-pedestrian block, this thesis takes the design of commercial-pedestrian block inNanzhuang Town, Foshan City as an example to expound the application of the theory above.In this thesis, whereby putting theory into practice, the systematic research on regional styleplays a conducting role in design. At the end, through the application of regional style oncommercial-pedestrian block, it is expected to preserve regional history, continue regionalcontext, and prosper local economic; at the same time, to enable us to connect with thehistory, understand forefather’s wisdom, and revalue today with history, which making furtherefforts to provide the modern public and future generations with the opportunity to perceive forefather’s wisdom.
