The theme park tourism is now fast spreading over the world as a revolutionarytourism pattern since the Walt Disney theme parks were born in the1950s in the UnitedStates. On November23,2009, it was announced that AmericanVought Warner Company and Shanghai Government had agreed on building the sixthworld’s Disney theme park in Shanghai, China in2011. With the development of thetheme park, technology innovation, and the wide use of multi-media, the theme park willcertainly step into a whole new concept theme park which focuses on tourist experience. And the construction of the Shanghai Disney theme park will face more opportunities andchallenges. This paper studies the future development trends of Disney theme park, theinteractive role playing experience of tourists, and finds out how to improve theexperience of tourists with the help of virtual-tech and multi-media tech through analysis. It is an urgent task to be solved by the global Disney theme park and Shanghai Disneypark as well to promote the identification of theme park brand and the interaction betweentourists and park.To acquire joy and emotional experience is the ultimate goal of modern tourists. Andcurrently, it is a trend for theme parks to combine reality and virtuality so as to provide better experience for tourists. This paper proposes a scheme of tourists’ actions at Disneyparks in terms of theme park development and tourists’ role playing. Emphasis is given tothe approaches to satisfying tourists’ multi-dimensional needs of social interactionsthrough effective employment of the space and facilities of the parks. This paper presentsan original study based on the proposal that tourists may fulfill their entertainmentexperience by taking roles of Disney figures in the situational contexts of role playing atthe parks. Compared with rather passive encounter with Disney cartoon figures, touristsmay choose to play certain roles based on their own personality and preferences andfurther develop more personalized roles. In this way, tourists may acquire desirableexperience through more active involvement and better interaction with the parks.
