Project schedule management is very important part of project management system;project success is highly depending on the quality of project schedule. Since there is alwaysresource constraint in real world, the study of resource constrained project schedulingproblem is very important for project management. As it is always true that a company willrequire shortening the project lead time after approval, the method of shortening project leadtime is also quite important for resource constraint project scheduling problem.Firstly, the concept and method of how to develop a project schedule has beenintroduced in this paper, and according to my work requirement, a schedule of the new engineblock machining line project is developed in this paper, the lead time of this project iscalculated with CPM method without considering the resource constraint; Secondly,considering the limitation of process engineer availability, and the shortage of project manualscheduling method, the resource confliction is checked with Microsoft Project, a new projectschedule without resource confliction was generated with the software by balancing theprocess engineer between the tasks, the project lead time of such schedule is481days. In thelast, Ant colony algorithm was introduced and the process flow of using this algorithm forresource constraint project scheduling problem was developed in this paper, the optimizationof engine block line project with Ant colony algorithm was realized by C++programme, thelead time of this new project schedule was calculated, the new project lead time is471days,comparing with the lead time generated by Microsoft Project, the lead time has beenshortened by10days. The method of using Ant colony algorithm in engine block projectscheduling problem in this paper has demonstrate the fitness and advantage of such algorithm,and give a new direction for how to solve resource constraint project scheduling problem.
