With the improvement of national living standard, a large number of new type electricalequipment emerge in national daily life, which put forward a higher request to the quality ofpower. When national are enjoying the technology progress, we must ensure that electricpower system can be run safely, reliably, high-quality, and reasonably. As a result, we mustimprove the reliability of electricity network supply and the utilization of power generationequipment, and make better the power system operating conditions, in order to meet therequirements of the economy and stability.The substation is an important component part of the power system, it links the grid at allvoltage levels through its internal transformer, achieves the function such as voltageconversion, acceptance and distribution of electric energy and control energy, and also plays aimportant role as a linking bridge between users and front-end power plant. The normaloperation of the substation is quite important to the entire power system, while the secondarysystem could complete the function of real-time monitoring and control among its chains. Soa reasonable secondary system design is a security to the safe, reliable and stable operation inthe substation even the entire power network.This paper, makes the design of the substation secondary system as its research object,analyzes and discusses the theory of the secondary system, provides a theoretical basis aboutthe rational operation for the system. The paper focuses on the principle of the secondarysystem design as well as the theory and choose for all kinds of protective equipment, signaldevices, etc. It details tuning principles of various parameters and the realization of functionsthrough several major systems in the secondary system. And then discusses the lightningprotection measures for the secondary system. By the analysis of various interference pathway,provides some satisfactory solutions and makes some good measures to ensure the reliabilityof lightning protection, in return providing a powerful guarantee for the safe and stableoperation of the equipment. Finally, explores the shortcomings about traditional substationsecondary system, elaborates the great need for the substation integrated automation system,and gives a summary of this paper.
