Loess areas in northern Shaanxi province have special topography and landforms,geology and hydrogeology climatic conditions, is one of the most serious damaged areas byflood in the western region. Heavy rains and flooding caused by the heavy rains are the mainhazard-formative factors of the water damage of highway in the loess area in northernShaanxi province. while many types of water damage take drainage facilities、fails as initialcharacteristics of disasters development, So set road drainage facilities scientifically andreasonably、perfect drainage system、improve their anti-disaster ability are the necessarymeasures to reduce road damaged by flood. However, due to various reasons, the existingdrainage structures can not adapt requirements of waterproof and drainage fully of loess areasin northern Shaanxi province highway in type、material and anti-disaster ability, so researchthe characteristics of water damage, propose suitable new drainage type, have importantengineering significance.This paper analyzes the natural environment of loess region highway waterproof anddrainage, through the field investigation of highway drainage systems use condition and waterdamage, combined with the analysis of material of water damage, classify the types of waterdamage of Road drainage system in northern Shaanxi province, and further analyzes thecauses of the damaged by flood.On this basis, combining with the analysis of the domestic and foreign material, analyzesprotection design of highway side slope of loess area,According to the own characteristic ofloess slope and climate condition of loess region, this paper proposes some forms of plantprotection of the slope suitable for loess area in northern Shaanxi province. Researched areahighway slope drainage measures, engineering measures include energy reduction flush,prevent fall, preventing structure instability. Summed up a set of prevention of highwaydrainage system damage measures, proposed the chute and the import and export of troughvarious processing methods, and through the comparative analysis of the tubular chutefeatures, applicable conditions and main points of construction, and puts forward the tubularchute of several kinds of new materials and conditions of use.Combined with natural geographical conditions, proposes new road drainage patterns and laid condition that suitable for loess area in northern shaanxi province, choose typical testsections in Yulin region loess, adopting new type drainage facilities, analyzes and evaluate itsuse effect through regular observation and data analysis. Results show that new type ofdrainage facilities have strong applicability and resistance ability to be damaged by flood canbe used widely in the corresponding region loess.
