Research On The Conservation And Use Of Traditional Settlement Heritage Based On Resident Perspective

As the development of social economy and the progress of urbanization in China，thesurvival and development of traditional settlements are strongly affected. Under thisbackground，we are facing an urgent problem that how to launch the conservation projectsof the settlements，make reasonable use of the historical and cultural resources that arerelated on the culture’s regional characteristics．During this progress， though a batch of traditional settlements with culturalsignificances have been properly protected and used，the life conditions of residents insome settlements have been improved，we still have to realize the complexity of theconservation projects，lots of new problems keep coming up and there are many shortagesin the previous researches．Now the “People-oriented”scientific outlook on developmentis emphasized，“Improving the quality of resident’s life，Creating harmonious environmentwhere human residents live”is the final purpose of the conservation and use. However，inthe former studies resident as an important factor has been ignored frequently．The paperattempts to focus on this factor and discusses the important meanings the resident as to theconservation and use of the settlement．To begin with，from the theories on the heritage of settlements protection in ourcountry，the paper analyses the crucial documents that are related，combining with someparticular cases and discusses our country’s present state of the traditional settlementconservation from theoretical guidance and practical system．Then，considering theresidents’ awareness of traditional settlements’ cultures，analyses the cultural significancefrom the view of resident’s requirement，puts the cognition into practice and defines thecharacteristic elements based on the resident’s demand. On this foundation，I select somerepresentative ancient towns in Jang Nan, and three typical villages in Ling Nan．Makeemic approach to these cases combining the typicality with universality. By means of thedeep field researches on a traditional settlement Dayuwan in Wu Han，the paper recordsthe progress of conservation and use，and the influences and changes that the conservationproject has brought to the resident’s life．The comments and feedbacks about the residentperspective in the practical work are also included．At last，the paper guides the proper strategies of conservation and use that can makethe resident perspective work，and try to provide some meaningful thoughts and referencesto the further work of conservation and use on traditional settlements．...
