With social progress and people’s living standards improved, water resources are increasingly tense and high demand for water supply. The characteristics of city large diameter water supply pipe network are sudden and devastating, not only cause the waste of water resources, but also bring many social problems. So, the study of the urban water supply pipe break should be paied more attention.By summing up the practical work and some cities water supply pipe break management experience, and combining with the problems and requirements of the safety management of water supply, the thesis analyzed the pipe break from the city water supply network of warning monitoring system, pipe network security operating system, pipe break rapid response and repair system. It is necessary to improve the traditional pipe break warning and monitoring systems of water supply and utilize advanced active control and management system for leakage and break. The mainly reasons of pipe break were the poor materials, antiquated pipelines, disturbance of road reconstruction and extension, impact of dynamic load, pipe joints and corrosion. The basic work processes of repair and information gathering of pipe break ware discussed.Taking Hangzhou as the object, proposed the suggestions of urban water supply pipe network safe operation, early warning of pipe break, emergency repair system’s establishment, and evaluated the applied system in practice. Presented the means of establishing and perfecting the GIS system of water supply pipe network, accelerating the improvement of the old pipe network, paying more attention to the pipe joints selection and the design of pipeline and the ancillary facilities, guaranteeing pipeline material quality, reducing adverse effect of the pipeline transportation, guaranteeing the pipeline construction quality, raising the pipe network management level, and safeguarding the safe operation of urban pipe network. Through enhancing the water supply emergency repair reaction capability and using new pipe materials and technology positively to guarantee the timeliness and effectiveness. It is proved by practice in HangZhou Water Group Co., Ltd that using the urban water supply pipe network break warning observation system with driving leak detection Permalog+could discover leaking point accurately and effectively in the first time, eliminate the hidden danger of pipe break promptly, and guarantee the security of water supply.
