Rutting is the main failure form of asphalt pavment. The road workers athome and abroad improve the pavement performance through modifying asphaltmaterial, strengthening the construction of pavement base, improving the construction technology to improve the high temperature stability and extend the service life of asphalt pavement,.At present the middle/upper layer asphalt pavement of highway in our country is mainly paved with SBS SBR EVA and PE modified asphalt. SBS is used widely in engineering with its best pavement performence, especially its price has declined substantially compared to previously. The use of SBS has greatly improved the usage of asphalt pavement and its durability and service life.SEAM(Sulphur-extended Asphalt Modifier) is in the form of half globularblack brown solid particles under normal temperature and it is composed of sulfur, smoke inhibitors, plastic additives and smell additives. The latest generation of products Thiopave is on the basis of SEAM adding the viscosity reduction of drag reduction agent. When SEAM added to the asphalt mixture, it can improve the performance of high temperature stability and dosen’t reduce otherproperties, and has the effect of warm mixing, lower prices, higher stability, more long-term storage and more simple and convenient to be used.This paper is relying on the LiuYi highway which is under construction inHechi Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Select three kinds of asphalt mixtures, that is70#petroleum asphalt, SBS and SEAM, as the objects of study, focusing on the SEAM asphalt mixture. Select three kinds of SEAM asphalt mixtures with different dosage, MSEAM: Masphalt=50:50,40:60and30:70, and research the design methods and performance of them through the test and theoretical analysis, to ascertain the optimum dosage of SEAM for engineering practice. The paper also discussed the pavement performance among the70#bitumen, SBS and SEAM with the optimum dosage asphalt mixture. Test and theoretical analysis shows that, the Marshall stability and dynamic stability of SBS and SEAM with three kinds of dosage50:50,40:60and30:70asphalt mixture are higher than those of70#bitumen’s. Marshall stability is improved by94.7%,49.6%,26.8%and44.8%, the dynamic stability is improved by200%,143%, 32%and in290%, The high temperature rutting resistance of SEAM and SBSasphalt mixture is better than70#bitumen asphalt mixture. Within a reasonabledosage, SEAM can improve the asphalt mixture residue stability than Marshall,but dose not reduce the freeze-thaw splitting intensity ratio, so as to improvethe mixture’s water stability. But the effect is inferior to SBS. In addition, the construction temperature of SEAM asphalt mixture is lower than that of70#bitumen and SBS modified asphalt mixture, generally can be reduced by20degrees to30degrees, the price of SEAM is basically equivalent to40%of asphalt’s. Therefore, with the demand of asphalt increasing, the reasonable and effective application of SEAM modified asphalt in highway pavement, not only cansave asphalt using, reduce energy consumption and cut down the cost of construction, but also reduce the environment pollution, thus realize the economic and environmental protection benefits.
