Study On The Darning Strategies Of The Old Urban Area Transport Network

The old district of the cities is recessing increasingly as the urbanization accelerates. Its renewal and revitalization, which were proposed in1970s, has become the crucial issue for the successful development of the cities worldwide. At present, almost all the cities perform the renewal and revitalization of the old district in our country. The traffic renovation, as the premise of the renaissance for the entire city, can change the spatial structure slightly, improving the living quality. However, some problems on the construction awareness have been exposed:the builders always emphasize the form and purpose of the traffic renovation, ignoring the diversity, historical value and accessibility of the transport network for the old districts. This paper thus put forward the method to renovate the transport network, darning, to conserve the historical tradition and create the vitality. This strategy concentrates on the stimulation of the original enthusiasm of the residents in the old districts and returning to the life of the residents.Firstly, based on the evolution of the urban renewal theories in foreign countries, the development process of the maintenance methods is analyzed with the aim to explore the characteristics of the urban land use, history and culture of the old districts in our country. Moreover the actual problems are revealed when the old districts are renewed. Finally the fundamental characteristics of the transport network in the old districts are narrated. The factors to affect the transport network are then examined using the darning theory. The patterns of the transport network are configured, followed by the systematical introduction of its pattern construction. In the third part, the darning principles are presented to guide the following darning strategies. The darning content, which is specific to the methods and indicators, is suggested combining with the cases both at home and abroad. Finally, the application is explored and studied, taking the darning of the transport network of Harbin West Station Area.
