The Darning Strategy Research In Urban Renewal Process Of Luoyang Old Town

Luoyang was announced to be of the first batch of national, historical and cultural cities by the State Council in1982, which did not improve the system of protection for this historical and cultural city of Luoyang until recent years. Government departments as well as relevant experts and scholars discussed and discovered that the progress of the protection of this historical and cultural city laged behind that of some cities like Xi’an, Suzhou and Beijing. Although the planning departments paid more and more attention to the preservation of the old town’s history, the ways and means of protection were too mechanical and rigid, not corresponding to the goal of sustainable development. To restore the reputation and status of the ancient capital, it bore the brunt to adjust the historic look of the Old Town. In the previous update, the old city landscape crushed due to the lack of urban renewal in the form of the availability of vocabulary. Domestic well-known scholar, Professor Wu Liangyong, had said:"city lost its historical relics, like a man lost his memory; the confrontment of fragmentation and fragmentation of the landscape of the old city gave birth to the theory of ’the darn city’. The landscape darning is an urgent subject needing to be studied deeply for the old area of the city which has rich historical resources." This article aims to explore how to use the darn strategy to solve the appearance of the fragmentation in the process of urban renewal, to protect the present living environment and respect the existing pattern of the city based on the continuation of the city through carding the texture of the Old City’s space and integrating of the old town’s resources of landscapes. The old town’s darn expected to create vibrant, well ecological and livable urban environment with cultural characteristics, much fun and sustainable development.
