The security, energy saving, environmental protection has become the the three main themes of today’s automotive technology, as the power of the car. the engine is one of the most important parts of the vehicle, it has a very important impact on vehicle’s energy saving and emission. On the basis of the existing diesel engine T160, it absorbs the latest advanced diesel engine structure and technology, and make a design improvement research on T160sample, in order to get the better performance of the T1601engine, improve the diesel engine’s industry market competitiveness.This paper introduces the vehicle diesel engines the present situation and development trend in the domestic and foreign, as well as foreign diesel engine applications, some of the advanced technology, which provides the theoretical basis for the T160diesel engine’s design improvement research. According to the design improvement scheme, including intake and exhaust system improvement optimization, re-matching of the turbocharger. improve the performance and fuel economy in low load. Because of adding to the new EGR system, the emission performance has been significantly improved and achieve the emission standard of Euro IV.After the accomplish of the T160engine design improvement, according to the improved engine components to make a theoretical research and calculation analysis, such as the exhaust manifold the gas fluid and thermal stress analysis of the exhaust manifold, to verify the rationality of the design of the manifold improvement; An EGR. system of simulation and validation, to avoid resonance with other systemsr; The gear compartment cover’s finite element analysis, to make the improvement plan to strengthen its structure stiffness.After the accomplish of the T1601engine theoretical research and calculation, making a cell test on the new models, such as the test parameter testing, performance testing, emission test, turbocharger matching test, reliability test, etc. The test results show that engine performance and fuel economy has a little improvement, emission performance has been greatly improved, the engine’s overall performance is stable, the various components have their’s safety and reliability,they also meet the design requirements.
