Ta Keo Temple, which is a outstanding representation of Combodia’s AngkorKhmer architecture, has been listed to the World Cultural Heritage. Due tounreasonable linging method, unstable members that form the substructure and theuntight connection between bearing systems, the Ta Keo temple get bad structuralintegrity and stability, with affect from the external environment and human activity, severe damage occurs in the substructures of the temple, which need urgent repairingand reinforcing. However, experts pay more attention to the architectural art ofAngkor, the proposed repairing and reinforcing methods are mostly based onengineering experience instead of structrual mechanical analysis, so far no evaluationof the post-repair structrual stability has beem reported yet. Based on siteinvestigation and the understanding of lining method and material property, thedamage conditions of each single structure was interpreted in this paper, repairing andreinforcing methods were proposed in order to improve the integrity and stability ofeach single structrue.Nonliner FEA software ABAQUS was also used to simulate thepre/post-repair structures to evaluate the repairing and reinforcing methods. The mainworks can be summarized as follows:(1) Based on the site investigation, the damage conditons of members, terraces,Khmer archs and turrets are interpreated to analyse the cause of the damages.Simultaneously, nonlinear FEA software ABAQUS was used to simulate the damageconditions and testify the cause of damages.(2) Referencing existing literatures, combined with the damage conditions ofmembers, terraces, Khmer archs and turrets, repairing and reinforcing methods areproposed to improve the structural integrity and stability.(3) The pre/post-repair single structures are simulated to compare the structuralintegrity and mechancial states. The effectiveness of the reinforcing methods wereevaluated to find out the weak link of the post-repair structures for monitoring.(4) Dangerous process in reparing and reinforcing construction is simulatedwith ABAQUS to reasonable and safe construction steps.
