In the background of economic globalization, competition in enterprises becomes more and more fierce, and the demand of the market for products tends to be more personal, small patch, diverse. So enterprises need to make measures to meet the market requirements. The most important is to improve the ability to develop products. In China, the motorcycle industry has developed for some decades. Each motorcycle enterprise have some product development capabilities. However, the products locate in low-and-middle of the motorcycle, which are more general motors. This development mode is difficult to adapt the market change. So to make some research and development on motorcycle digital design technologies based on PDM is necessary. On the one hand, it can provide efficient tools, effectively reduce motorcycle product development cycle and cost, improve the quality and efficiency, and then improve the market competitiveness of products. On the other hand, motorcycle digital design platform based on PDM can use the enterprise existing resources effectively, and help engineers to finish the product development. The paper made some research and development on digital design platform applied Knowledge Engineering, Parametric Design, PDM. The main work contains as follows:1. The study on demand analysis and architecture of motorcycle digital design platform. The paper made certain of demand analysis through investigation in enterprise. And it proposed the whole architecture of motorcycle digital design platform. According to that, the paper studied the basic theory and method of digital design platform based on PDM, which provided theoretical and technical foundation.2. The study on integration and management techniques of motorcycle digital design platform based on PDM. After understanding the function constitution and architecture, the paper studied integration and management techniques of motorcycle digital design platform based on PDM. The integration includes software integration and data integration. The main management contained users and limits management, project schedule and workflow management, data management and so on. Meanwhile, the paper analyzed the secondary development technique of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM, which is the technical foundation of the development of motorcycle design knowledge base and motorcycle components parametric design system.3. The study on design knowledge base of motorcycle digital design platform. According to motorcycle design, the paper summarized the basis theory knowledge of motorcycle, the design rules, performance inspection knowledge, etc. The paper mainly studied acquisition and expression of motorcycle design knowledge, and developed the motorcycle design knowledge base on VB.NET with secondary development of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM, which can help engineers to design motorcycle and accumulate product design knowledge.4. The study on parametric design system of motorcycle digital design platform The paper concluded the parametric design process of some general motorcycle components, mainly studied the development of motorcycle components parametric design system applied secondary development of Pro/Toolkit.5. At last, set a project for a example, the paper introduced the application of motorcycle digital design platform based on PDM in the developing process of motorcycle in detail, and verified the feasibility of the platform.
