Mass Customization (MC) has become the popular production mode in 21st century,providing customized products with the efficiency and cost of mass production. As basicequipment in industrial production overhead crane has to improve the user level and shortenthe development cycle to enhance market competitiveness. The paper analyzes thetechnologies of design for mass customization (DFMC),and a rapid design system foroverhead crane based on MC was developed. The main contents of the dissertation are asfollows:(1)The current research situation of overhead crane and Mass Customization isintroduced, and rapid design techniques and methods are summarized. The significances ofdevelopment of rapid design for overhead crane based on customization are suggested.(2)The product development process in Mass Customization is divided into two childstages:product family implementation and product customization. The paper concretelyanalyzes the characteristics of two design stages and the technical basis of DFMC.(3)According the model of design resource organization of product family,theimplementation of overhead crane product family was planned. Configurable product family’smaster model of overhead crane product family was done.(4)Through SML technology and holographic modeling,two modeling methods ofparts and assemblies were researched. Product variant design technology of the parts andassembly body based on product family’s master model and master document was researched.(5)Twice case match based on both rule and case reasoning was applied to solve overhead crane matching problem during configuration design,as well as customizationprocess of overhead crane was planned.(6)Establish a system architecture of rapid design for overhead crane based on MC,suggest the system’s development module and development technology,develop the system.At last the paper suggests a C/S/W work process and introduces system operation process.
