Mass customization will certainly become one of the main production models of the 2lcentury as a kind of new production pattern, it combines the advantages of customizationproduction and mass production, it can meet customers’demand, at the same time, it couldkeep a low production cost and short delivery time. As one of the key technologies of thedesign for mass customization, product configuration design can configure out thepersonalized products that meet customers’demand quickly, Products are divided into thereasonable modules and configuration model is established to achieve rapid configuration.Therefore, it is important to study the product configuration modeling method and modulepartition method.Modular design technology of the configuration design is deeply studied on the basis ofanalysis of the problem that existing at home and abroad, which includes module codetechnology and module partition technology. Five module feature coding and four moduleinterface coding system is proposed. A method of modules classification based on relationshipbetween the interfaces is proposed.Basic flow and definition of the product configuration are studied, and the keytechnologies of configuration design are discussed in detail. Variable configuration designmethod based on modular is presented on the basis of analysis of the modular designtechnologies, rapid configuration design of the products is realized by matching demandvariables with module variables.A detailed configuration modeling process is formulated by analyzing product family and family configuration model, also modeling methods of part family, component family andproduct family are introduced in detail, besides interface design methods of the configurationmodel are presented, and the concept of virtual interface as well as the modeling method areput forward.The environment and development tools of configuration system are introduced, thesystem structure and work flow of configuration system are formulated and the functionmodules of the system are briefly presented.
